From the supplier
1,2-Butylene oxide has an unpleasant odor and is a colorless, movable liquid. This low-boiling liquid is miscible with the majority of popular organic solvents but has poor water solubility. It reacts with substances that contain labile hydrogen atoms in the same way that epoxides do. These include, among others, alcohols, phenols, polyols, thiols, amines, acids, and ammonia. Butylene oxide can be polymerized or copolymerized with other alkylene oxides to create polyethers. Compared to polymers of the same chain length produced from ethylene and propylene oxide, the resultant polymers are less soluble in water. It is used as stabilizer for chlorinated solvents and an intermediate for different polymers. It is also employed as a chemical intermediary in the synthesis of butylene glycols.
