SourceThe axial root conical, with several fibrous roots, 15-25Characteristicscm long, the root base l.5-4.0 cm in diameter, brown in colour. Corklongitudinally and transversely lenticellate, the root body longitudinallywrinkled, the root base rounded flat, with lanceolate stem leaf remnantlying flat at its top. Prepared by crosscutting, the section showing a broadcortex with brown spotted oil cavities and an even xylem, cambium ringappearing between them. Soft in texture, delicately fragrant in smell.Sweet and acrid in taste, warm in nature, and attributive to liver, heartand spleen channels.
Pharmacological Action:1. Dilating coronary artery,increasing coronaryPharmacological Actionflow and decreasing oxygen consumption.
2. Relieving myocardial ischemia induced by pituitrin in animals.3. Ferulic acid, one of its active components, can lower the level of bloodlipids and counter the development of atheroma.
4.Promoting the phagocytosis of mononuclear macrophage.
5. Protecting the liver from damage and increasing biliary secretion.
