From the supplier
Calcium carbide (CaC2) melting point 2300℃. Insoluble in all known solvents. It conducts electricity. The higher the purity, the better the conductivity. The chemical properties are active, and can produce chemical reactions with many gases and liquids at appropriate temperatures. Decomposition with water to produce acetylene gas and calcium hydroxide, and release heat. It can react violently with chlorine, hydrogen chloride, sulfur, phosphorus and ethanol at high temperature. Calcium carbide containing too much impurity calcium phosphide produces phosphine when it encounters water, which is extremely explosive.
