The five areas that make sense
Guangzhou is a big city and the complex is not in its centre. What matters is not distance but a direct metro line, because the roads around Pazhou seize up between 8:30 and 9:30 and again at 18:00. Anywhere on Line 8 or Line 11 is a fair-day commute of under 30 minutes.

What rooms cost during the fair
Typical nightly rates seen for the fair weeks in 2025 and 2026, booked six to eight weeks out. Prices in the two weeks before a phase are higher; prices in the middle of a phase are occasionally lower.

Two things soften the numbers. Almost every rate includes breakfast, which matters when the halls open at 9:30 and the food courts are a scrum. And the rates drop back to normal the day after each phase ends, so a break-day night costs half a fair night, which is another reason to plan factory visits on those days rather than fly home and back.
When and where to book
- Timing. Two to three months ahead for Pazhou, six to eight weeks for the city. For the spring session that means January or February; for autumn, July or August. Book refundable and rebook if something better appears.
- Trip.com has the deepest inventory in China and is where most of the local hotels list; its app also handles the trains. Booking.com and Agoda cover the international chains and some of the rest. Prices for the same room can differ by 20% between them for the fair weeks, so check two.
- The official accommodation service (booking.cantonfair.org.cn) lists designated hotels with the organiser’s shuttle routes. It is not cheaper, but the shuttle information is reliable and the hotels are used to badge collection at the front desk.
- Directly with the hotel once you have stayed once. Sales managers at the Pazhou hotels keep lists of returning fair buyers and will hold rooms for them at the previous session’s rate. Ask at check-out.
Shuttle hotels
Dozens of hotels within 10 kilometres of Pazhou run a morning and evening shuttle during the fair and put “Canton Fair free shuttle bus” in their name on the booking sites. The arrangement is simple: a coach leaves the hotel at 8:30 or 9:00, drops at one of the areas, and returns from the same point at 17:30 or 18:00. It works well if your day is one hall. It is a constraint if you want to leave at 15:00 for a factory, or arrive at 11:00 after morning calls, and then you are in a taxi anyway. Ask for the timetable before you book, and check which area the shuttle stops at against the phase layout for your dates.
What actually matters in the room
- A desk and a spare power socket. Evenings are for sorting catalogues and typing up quotes.
- Breakfast from 6:30, not 7:30.
- Laundry with same-day return; five days of walking in October humidity.
- A safe for the passport and the badge.
- Somewhere to store luggage after check-out on the last day, so you can do a final morning in the halls.
- Reliable Wi-Fi is less important than it sounds: hotel Wi-Fi goes through the Chinese internet and blocks Gmail and WhatsApp regardless. Your eSIM is what keeps you connected.
What to avoid
- Hotels near Guangzhou railway station (the old one, not East or South) unless you are there for the wholesale markets. It is a long, crowded metro ride from Pazhou.
- Hotels in Baiyun near the airport. An hour each way; the airport is not on the way to anything else.
- Non-refundable rates booked in the spring for October. The room will exist; your plans may not.
- Booking a single night at a time to save money. Hotels in Pazhou will not extend during the fair; you will be moving on day three.

Questions we get asked
Should I stay in Pazhou or in the city centre?
If the budget allows and you will be in the halls every day, Pazhou: you walk in at 9:30 and walk out to your room at 18:00. If you want restaurants, a walk in the evening and a lower bill, stay near a Line 8 or Line 11 station in Tianhe or Haizhu and commute 20 to 30 minutes.
Can I stay in Hong Kong or Shenzhen and commute to the fair?
Not sensibly. Hong Kong is two and a half hours door to door each way with immigration; Shenzhen is about 90 minutes. People do it for a single day at the fair. For three days or more, sleep in Guangzhou.
Is Airbnb or a serviced apartment an option?
Airbnb withdrew from mainland China in 2022. Serviced apartments exist in Zhujiang New Town and are good value for long stays, but a foreigner in a private apartment is supposed to register with the police within 24 hours, and the apartment will not do it for you. For a fair trip a hotel is simpler.
How many nights do I need?
Arrive the day before your first fair day and leave the morning after your last, so a single phase is six nights. Two phases with the break days is fourteen. Break days can be spent in a factory town instead; Foshan and Dongguan hotels are half the Guangzhou price.
Do hotel prices fall during the fair if I wait?
Sometimes on the last two days of a phase, and sometimes on the break days. In the first three days of each phase, no. Refundable rates booked early are the safe route; if a cheaper room appears closer to the date, cancel and rebook.
